I have been meant to contribute something for the ‘Back to School Charity Project’ organized by Pondok Craft, but couldn’t find the perfect time to work on the sewing machine. 1 week of midterm break is just not enough, sigh. Later I get back to Pondok Craft and realized that I’m almost reached the deadline! Delay no more, I really need to start working on the project.

I decided to follow the tutorial provided by Annie Get Your Glue Gun. Initially, I was feeling a little bit nervous to work on the project as I haven’t had any experience on sewing a pencil case. So afraid that I will end up wasting the fabrics if the item doesn’t turn out as what it should be. Most of all, I was scared to play with zippers! I have always thought that zippers are tricky. But surprisingly, the tutorial makes everything easy. Thanks Annie for the wonderful tutorial :)

I can say that working on pencil cases is such an addictive! I just love the feeling of being able to finish a simple sewing project within a short time period. It’s a pleasant :) For this project, I’m using the Daisy Dreams and Candy Dumb Dot from Michael Miller collections. Those fabrics are totally great for crafting, plus, the prints are cute and vibrant.

Oh, not to forget. Emak did contributed too! She sponsored for the zippers and interfacing paper. She even helped me to fill in the pencil cases with old newspaper so that it will not flatten during postage. Thanks emak!  As for the label, I choose to make it out of a hard paper and attached it on the zippers part. It’s removable.

I will need to post out these items to Pondok Craft latest by Friday as it’s reaching the deadline. After all, I hope the items would get to the kids safely. And I wish they would be happy to receive those items and love them as much as I do :)

A child is a miracle of life, one of the most valuable gifts from God. The birth of a new child often brings hope and represents a new chance and a new beginning. Their adorable and lovable features attract people of all ages. We can learn a lot from them in their innocence and simple faith. More than ever, their beautiful smile will definitely melt our heart.

However, we can see that the love towards children has becoming lessen and lessen in today’s world. Child abuse happens every now and then, at any places and anytime. Neglect, physical, emotional, and sexual abuse are types of child abuse. Certainly among all, none of them I would ever want to see it happen again :( It’s saddens me to know that there are still people who are practicing brutality towards children for whatever reason. Thus, I believed that it’s our responsibility to raise awareness about this issue and get rid of the inhumanity act.

Probably, the least that we can do to stop the culture, are:

  • to learn about child abuse.
  • Educate ourselves and friends about child abuse.
  • Seek for respite care and join a support group.

“Mahkota Parade is undergoing a major refurbishment which started from July 2009 and will end by April 2010. To mark the completion of the refurbishment, the Centre is relaunching with a Charity Fashion Fun Walk for Yayasan Toh Puan Zurina. This one-of-a-kind event combines fashion with charity, where participants can make a statement with their fashion sense in order to raise awareness and bring hope to needy kidney patients.

Fun and fashion are the main themes of the walk. Therefore, participants MUST be fashionably dressed. Ladies must come in full costume jewellery and trendy wear; heels are optional. Men must wear colourful and fashionable clothing. Kids must come in colourful and trendy clothing. However, traditional attire is also welcomed. This event is open to the public. For more information, please visit here“.

OMG. Seriously, this is so cool (!) I’m super excited upon reading about the charity event. I wish to be a part of it by entering the Fashion Fun Walk. An event which combines the fashion with charity, I believe it must be fun :) The entry fees are range from RM25 to RM300 (depending on the categories) and all will be donated to: Yayasan Toh Puan Zurina. Besides, there are cash prizes to be won for each category. Doesn’t that sounds yummy?

Just when I’m confirmed to register for the event, I was dissapointed by my-exam-schedule. The event will be held on the 1st May, which is about few days before the coming final exam (the 1st paper will be on the 4th May). Ok, there is no point for me to step out of my room before the exams end.
